A Peek Under The Hood

Hemi Engine

I thought it might be interesting for some of you to get a “peek under the hood” (plonkee, that’s a bonnet for you) at Gather Little By Little. So without further adieu…

Hosting and blog platform

Gather Little By Little (or GLBL from here on out) is hosted by DreamHost. GLBL is the first site I’ve hosted with DreamHost they have been great so far. Their control panel interface is easy and simple to use. They offer “one-click” installs of some of the most popular web software packages and unlimited email addresses and domains. One of the things I really like is the longer you are with them, the more disk space you get…all for the same price!

The Friday Gathering For 9/28/2007

one more step on the path
It’s been an exciting week for Gather Little By Little. I had set a goal when I first started to have at least 100 RSS subscribers by the end of September. GLBL reached 100 on Monday of this week! The next goal is more aggressive, 500 by the end of the year. You can help me out by subscribing to my RSS feed if you aren’t already a subscriber! It’s just a few clicks and you won’t miss out on a single post! If you are a subscriber, thanks, I’m sincerely glad to have you!

What's In Your RSS Reader?

Google Reader Screenshot

Over in the MBN forums, GettingGreen posted a thread asking all of the personal finance bloggers what pf blogs they read. I posted my list, but then I thought you might be interested as well. So, here’s the list of the persoanl finance blogs I currently have in my Google Reader. I’ll try to keep this updated as I change it.
If you aren’t familiar with RSS, please read my article What is RSS and How Do I Read It?.

If you aren’t currently subscribed to Gather Little By Little, I’d encourage you to subscribe so you don’t miss a single article!

Carnivals For The Week of 9/23/2007

Kids at the Carnival

Continuing my carnival craziness, I once again submitted articles to five different blog carnivals this week.

Here are the carnivals I participated in and links to the articles I submitted:

In Financial Chaos? Pass the Test!!

Test

James 1:12 – Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Mark collapsed in his desk chair. What a day, he thought. His project at work was late, 2 weeks late to be precise and his manager was not happy about it. She had made that very clear to him during a meeting earlier today. Driving home had taken him more than an hour due to an accident on the freeway. Under normal circumstances, the drive would take less than 20 minutes. He missed dinner with his family, something he always look forward to and cherished. Instead, he had just finished eating the microwaved leftovers by himself.

The Top Notch WordPress Plugins I Use

Plug

I frequently get asked about which WordPress plugins I use or how I implement various features on my site, like my Featured, Archives, and Contact pages. So instead off replying in “one off” answers, I thought I would just post a listing of the various plugins I am currently using along with a brief comment about each. I say currently as I am constantly trying new plugins, and making changes. I will try to keep this list as current as possible.

Here’s the list:

Do Money Vices Have A Grip on You?

ViceThe new BMW 1-series was recently announced and it is gorgeous. I have wanted (not needed) a BMW since I was a teenager. The 3-series, and specifically the M3, has always been my favorite. Any 3-series is still way out of my league price wise and even more so now that I’ve decided to only pay cash for my cars going forward. Now BMW introduces the 1-series, ranging from a $26,000 – $31,000 or so, relatively cheap by BMW standards. If we really cut back I could afford one. Maybe finance it for 7 years, the payment wouldn’t be too bad at all, maybe I could even lease one…

Gazelle Intensity, Not For Me Thanks

Gazelles

Timothy 4:4-5- Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks. For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer.

If you have ever listened to Dave Ramsey or read his book Total Money Makeover you’ve heard him say many times to be Gazelle Intense. What Dave means by this is that when you are attacking your debt, you need to be as intense as a gazelle trying to avoid being eaten. If you haven’t listened to Dave, I highly recommend you do. You can listen to one of his local radio broadcast or listen to his podcast.

Money Saving Monday Tip #11 – Price Comparison Sites

Shopping Cart - Old Meets New

As a frequent online shopper it can be difficult to find what online merchant carries which items and at which price. Comparison shopping on the internet is one of the key ways to find the best deal and save yourself a lot money. Surfing around the internet to find who carries what and at what price can be tedious and time consuming. Fortunately there are a few sites that I like to use that make the process easy:
