Mr. Rebates Review

Rebate sites are something fairly new to me and I recently wrote up a review of Ebates which I’ve used a few times and have been very happy with. A reader added a comment to my Ebates article suggesting that I check out a competing site call Mr. Rebates. Always on the look out for great money saving ideas and strategies I signed up. I’m glad I did.

The key to lowering your grocery bill: unit cost

Too Many Choices

My 8 year old son is a type 1 diabetic. He was diagnosed in November 2006. I knew about Diabetes before, but never really understood how serious, complex, and life affecting the disease truely is until we had to deal with it first hand. The biggest impact is on his and our food choices. Food must be low in sugar, low in carbs, and high in protein.

Beyond the basic eggs, meats, and cheese there aren’t too many breakfast options, or at least ones he likes. He does like cheese omelets, breakfast sandwiches and oatmeal. Oatmeal is easy, he can make that himself;however, omelets and breakfast sandwiches require us to fix them for him.

MySurvey.com – Get paid to take surveys!

I’m always on the look out for ways to make some extra income. Paidtwice wrote a while back about how she uses survey sites to generate a little extra snowflaking cash, so I thought I would try it as well. I chose MySurvey for my first trial just to see how it went and insure I actually have enough time to fill them out.

Joining MySurvey

Joining the MySurvey community is relatively quick and very easy. Be aware though, they do ask for a bit of personal information. This of course is so they can better target surveys for you. Once complete, you select your user name and password and you’re registered.

Save money using Ebates

I hate shopping. I hate dealing with the traffic, fighting the crowds, and driving store to store trying to find the best deal. The only exception to this rule is shopping at the bookstore. I could spend days in a bookstore…

Since I can’t stand shopping, I prefer to buy things online. I first heard about Ebates from my fellow M-Network buddy Patrick from Cash Money Life. EBates is a site that partners with various online merchants and gives you cash back when you purchase items through them. What this really means is that EBates pays you to buy the items you would normally buy anyway.

Yahoo freecycle rediscovered

Freecycle Logo

Two weeks ago, I was reading through my blogroll and came across an article CleverDude wrote about how he got a Garmin GPS device for free on freecycle. I was a member of freecycle a long time back, but for some reason I can’t recall, decided to unsubscribe. I had forgotten all about Yahoo freecycle until I read CleverDude’s article, and decided I needed to give it a try again.

How to wash your car and save money

I was finally able to wash our cars this weekend for the first time in nearly 6-months. We’ve been on water restrictions until recently in our area and not able to use any outside water. Many people opted to take their vehicles to the local commercial car washes. Call me cheap, but I just wouldn’t pay the $20.00+ for someone else to wash my car. I know many people who did (and still do), sometimes even multiple times a week!

Retailers want your economic stimulus money

Close-up of Money

Over the past couple weeks I’ve seen TV commercials, print ads, signs and fliers from retail outlets offering special deals for those using their IRS economic stimulus rebate checks. Seems the retailers are aggressively fighting for your money and that’s to your advantage.

Since it would seem many of you are starting to get your checks, or will be soon I thought I would share just a few or the larger “deals” or incentives being offered by various retailers:

We have 6 children, 5 boys and 1 girl. Son #4 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on November 14th, 2006. My wife and I both read various diabetes websites and magazines as we’re always on the prowl for new recipes and products.

My wife recently found this article on Every Day Health that shared 13 ideas for saving money when grocery shopping. Only one of them is specific to diabetics:
