Introduction to Stew (by Stew)

hand-shake-3

I am new here! Please be nice.

I am a husband and father in my mid-thirties. My life experiences are relatively broad for someone of my age. If you are not careful, I might try to sound like an expert in several areas, but don’t let that fool you. I don’t claim expertise in anything. Mostly, I just know enough to be dangerous. The best way for me to communicate who I am is with a list:

  • I attended private schools throughout grade school and high school. My parents were teachers in all of them.

Made it to the FMF Final Challenge!

I am still in a state of shock and amazement, but my article Do you appreciate what you have? made it to the final Challenge! This was of course thanks to you and all of the Free Money Finance readers who voted for me. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!

Now it’s between me and Pete from Bible Money Matters. It’s truely a blessing to have both of the final articles be from Christian personal finance blogs!

I selected the American Diabetes Association, and the donation would be in honor of my 9 year old son (pictured above) who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November of 2006.

My son with diabetes

My son with diabetes

My article, Do you appreciate what you have? has now made it to the “Sweet 16″ of Free Money Finance’s March Madness. I’m honored to have made it this far, as there were some really awesome articles submitted and I was up against some pretty stiff competition!

I’d really love to win, as if I do, FMF of Free Money Finance will donate $500.00 to the charity of my choice. I selected the American Diabetes Association, and the donation would be in honor of my 9 year old son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November of 2006.

I made it to round 2 and need your help!

Free Money Finance continues March madness and my article made it to Round 2! If you have a minute, I’d really appreciate it if you would head over and vote: Game 2: Appreciate.

If I win, FMF will donate $500 to my charity of choice, the Amercian Diabetes Association. My now 9 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November of 2006. He’s been quite a trooper through the whole thing. He makes me very proud of him each and every day as I watch him struggle daily with the illness. Researchers have made some significant breakthroughs in the past couple of years towards possibly finding a cure. I feel like they are so close to a major breakthrough!

The Friday Gathering – Arizona Edition

Arizona

Within the next few hours, I’ll be back on a plane and headed home. I won’t get in until late this evening, but I can’t get home soon enough. I will say though that I was very pleasantly surprised with Phoenix Arizona. Arizona was not at all what I expected. Although I knew better, I had this vision in my of desert, sand, no trees, etc. The area is beautiful, full of palm trees, cactus, and gorgeous mountain ranges that just seem to pop-up out of the ground. The city of Phoenix is beautiful as well, with immaculately landscaped highways, cobblestone intersections, and water features everywhere. Everything here looks so clean, fresh and new.

Subscriber Swap Saturday: No Debt Plan

nodebtplan

Kevin over at No Debt Plan has come up with a great idea called Subscriber Swap Saturday and I’m honored to be participating with him today. Subscriber swap is a great way to introduce you (my readers) to other blogs I read.

No Debt Plan is about getting and staying out of debt with a plan. Kevin, the author, is passionate about budgeting, saving for the future, and using goals to reach financial freedom. You can subscribe to his blog by RSS or email.

March Madness at Free Money Finance

Each year Free Money Fianance runs something call March Madness where personal finance bloggers (like me) submit our best articles to compete against each other for reader votes. I missed submitting last year, but didn’t make the same mistake this year.

My article is now up as part of Game 3, so make sure you head over and vote for Appreciate as part of game 3!

I don’t win anything, but if I do win, FMF will donate up to $500 to the charity of my choice, which happens to be the American Diabetes Foundation, an organization near and dear to my heart as my 9 year son has had type 1 diabetes since he was 7 years old.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas morning at the Gather Little by Little household

Just a quick post to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Our kids had mercy on us this year and allowed us to sleep in until 7:30! Something about Christmas morning that always amazes me is how quickly it’s over. Within 1/2 an hour all of the presents were open and the kids were off and playing. Of course my wife and I had to assembly a few things and remove the packaging from a few items which kept us busy for a bit.
