It’s easy to visit Gather Little by Little on a daily or weekly basis, read or skim through the articles then move on. Not only is it easy, but it’s beneficial too (or at least I hope so). By reading Gather Little by Little that way though, you’re really missing out. I thought I’d take a few minutes just to share with you a few things about Gather Little by Little that will help you benefit the most from it:

A couple of weeks ago I received a very interesting and though provoking email that I though you might find interesting as well. It’s an analogy put together by David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D., Professor of Economics, University of Georgia. The story attempts to explain how our US Tax system works using an example of 10 men who visit a coffee shop.
I’m not sure I completely agree with it, but I thought it would be fun to share and discuss.

- Finished Moving – We spent the early part of the week back at our old house getting the last remaining few items that we missed when we first moved. We also finished cleaning up and doing any last minute paint touching up and repairs. It was really eerie returning to the empty old house.

You guys have been reading about my search for a new home, our decision to move to the mountains, about us finally finding one, then the purchase process and now finally the time has come. We’re moving!
We’re having a huge garage sale tomorrow to sell all of the junk…er…valuable items we don’t want to take with us. Once that’s all gone, we’ll finish packing up all but the essentials. The moving truck arrives bright and early on Wednesday morning to begin loading us up. Our closing is scheduled for Thursday morning at 10:00, and following that we’ll meet the moving company up at the new house at noon for them to unload us.

Wow, this has really been an “interesting” week. First we started down the path of purchasing our new home, then the government announced the possible bailout package, and I turned 39 yesterday! Hard to believe I’m almost 40…wow, just writing that number is scary.

Wow, Friday already. This week has really flown by. I guess that’s the benefit of staying busy.
I know many of you are following our house situation and the move we are planning to make, hopefully sooner than later. No big update other than we continue to work on house to make it more attractive to potential buyers. We have new carpet being installed today and my wife is finishing up repainting one last room. Our realtor has a big open house scheduled for Sunday afternoon and we hope that brings some traffic through. Since school has started, we haven’t had one single showing.

Ever take on a little too much? I seem to have done so over the past few months. The problem is I have all of these ideas and things I want to do, but not enough time to do them, at least not without sacrificing things that are more important to me.

I wanted to provide you with an update on moving to the mountains. We finally completed the contract on the new house, the one I mentioned in my gathering two weeks ago. We offered about 15% below the current asking price, and the family countered to meet in the middle which we agreed to. The house had already been reduced to 15% below asking price, so we ended up purchasing it for about 25% off the list price. Both myself and our agent feel we got a very good deal. We now have a fully signed contingency contract in place. Now we just need to sell our current house within 60 days. The picture to the left is the view from the front porch of the house we are trying to buy. Nice huh?
