When one of them was being interviewed 1 month after the event, they said these exact words (quoted from your post), &quot;I think the most important lesson to be learned is that we can survive on a whole lot less than we think we can.&quot;  They also expressed a sense of gratitude that their neighbors and a lot of people they didn&#039;t know helped them along the way. How about a post on someone who has survived a major catastrophe or a major financial setback? One observation, we have a very simple small cabin in the mountains and a larger &#039;main&#039; house.  I am always amazed at how we can be fully content in the smaller simplier one.  I think we often get caught up in the acquisition of bigger and better; thinking it will bring us happiness.
