Very sorry to hear about your friend’s death. This article has a lot of great information in it, and everyone should work to complete these tasks. Leaving your loved ones behind with nothing is an awful thing to happen.

The “in the event I die” file or card is a good idea. It is never fun to talk about, but since I handle the finances in our house it was something that was very necessary for us. I need to know that my wife will have all the info she needs if I happen to take off a little sooner than expected.

@George – I have 6 children. Your point is valid, but through my company all of my children are insured for $10,000 each for a little more than a $1.00 per month for me. If I work for 30 years, that’s only $360 dollars.

I’ll add in my condolences for the loss of your friend, but I’m very perplexed as to why you’d have life insurance for your children. If one of them dies, the only financial implication is the cost of a funeral and burial (the emotional implications are far greater, of course). While life insurance could cover those expenses, it’d probably be easier just to utilize savings. The cost of the life insurance over your children’s childhood will likely far exceed the cost of a funeral, in the unlikely event that one would be necessary…

You reminded me that we need to prepare. We’re not prepared at all, unless the meager amount of life insurance we have counts. s a stay at home mom, I need to up my life insuracne by about $750,000! We need to prepare our wills, as well. It’s not sometign we want to think abouot, but you are right, it needs to be taken care of.
