At the start of this year I managed to keep fairly detailed records of where our money was going. However, I let it all fall apart. I have not touched it since then but am getting the itch to do so again.

I need to sit down and create a budget with hubby for sure. I have an *idea* of where our money goes but not any clear set budget.

My wife and I have been using Microsoft Money for years, and it has helped us to keep our budget in check - to a degree. I think it might be a good idea to try one of these others out and see if it is a bit simpler - for her - and for me.

I'm another YNAB user and fan...used Quicken and Money for years, but found it hard to keep entering expenses as I wasn't using the entries for anything. Now that YNAB tracks my budget, I actually get excited (in a nerdy sort of way) about entering transactions and watching all the amounts adjust. Has brought my wife and I closer as well...no more money fights!

Unfortunately, I'm a member of the "I'll do it right next month" school of action. I've created budgets quite a few times in the past, but my sticking point has always been making sure that my spending for each category doesn't exceed the amount that I've allocated in my budget...I actually created a tentative budget at the beginning of this month, but haven't been tracking spending as well as I should be- I'm just trying to keep the overall amount of expenditures and savings in line without keeping track of categories like utilities and entertainment.

Well, there's always June! ;)

I started using a budget for the first time in February 2008. I have sort of tried before with Quicken/MS Money, but it was awkward and confusing. I use YNAB as well and absolutely love it! I think it is a great program for beginners and advanced users. I cannot say enough great things about it.

Last year I started my own get out of debt plan. I had some great resources like your blog and many others. I tracked every penny in Quicken, but something was missing. I saw what I was spending and saving, but I could not see things clearly. I saw numbers and categories, but it was not easily readable, thus I could not grasp what was really going on month to month. There was something else that I needed to help me and it was a budget. I tried doing on with paper, but it was not my style and I did not keep up with it. Then I looked at various spreadsheets and programs. YNAB was the one that really stuck out as what I needed. It was the last piece to my complete financial turn around and organization.
