When will I get my economic stimulus rebate check?
By glblguy
Happy Polar Bear by: Jeff Kubina – He must be getting his check on May 2nd!
The IRS recently announced the payment schedule for the economic stimulus payment schedule. So for those of you wondering when you’ll be receiving your checks, wonder no more. Payments will start being sent out on May 2. If you filed early and elected to receive direct deposit, you’ll be one of the first to receive your rebate check.
Here’s the full schedule from the IRS:
Direct Deposit
Last two SSN digits: | Payment will be transmitted: |
00 through 20 | May 2 |
21 through 75 | May 9 |
76 through 99 | May 16 |
Paper Check
Last two SSN digits: | Payments will be mailed by: |
00 through 09 | May 16 |
10 through 18 | May 23 |
19 through 25 | May 30 |
26 through 38 | June 6 |
39 through 51 | June 13 |
52 through 63 | June 20 |
64 through 75 | June 27 |
76 through 87 | July 4 |
88 through 99 | July 11 |
What if I file after April 15th?
If you file after April 15th, you’ll still receive your rebate check but 2 weeks later than the schedule above shows. Warning though, in order to receive a check this year, you must file before October 15th.
Also, a small amount of returns require extra processing and the rebates associated with these returns may not be able to meet the schedules above.
Want to know more about the stimulus package or have specific questions? The IRS has a great resource center that will hopefully provide the answer you need. Wondering the package is just a loan or if it’s going to just decrease your 2008 tax return? Read my article that answers whether the rebate payment is a loan or not.

You might wish to add that if you owe taxes this year, you will most likely receive a paper check. For whatever reason, the IRS cannot use the checking account info you submit for a withdrawal (IE, paying taxes) for a deposit.
This is one of the few years I’ve ever owed taxes, due to some extra income last year. And so I have to wait for my rebate, even though I’ll be paying my taxes shortly via direct withdrawal. :( (And, since I fall in the second to last group, I’ll be waiting nearly 2 extra months to get it.)
April 1st, 2008 at 1:12 pm
I don’t remember the last time I actually got a refund from federal. I’m pretty sure I have at some time, though. And it was probably direct deposited. Did I have to have a refund direct deposited last year in order to get my check quicker?
April 1st, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Thanks for the detailed information. We filed for an electronic deposit on our refund, but received paper checks. I guess we’ll find out when we actually get the checks.
April 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm
@AnnMarie – Thanks, you just added it :-)
@Stephanie – That is a really good question, and to be honest I am not sure. I would suspect you’ll receive a paper check, but that is pure speculation on my part.

my wife is pushing me to get our taxes done.
eeek.

Thanks for your posts on the Stimulus Package-I linked to you at katymom.com, hoping to help clear some stuff up for my friends.
April 29th, 2008 at 1:52 am
my check was due today what happened?
April 30th, 2008 at 1:52 am
Great useless government. First they have actually admitted that this is coming to late, even those who get the first payments. Country is already fallen to far. This will only give us a quick rush but not actually help. And for those who need this money they don’t get it quick enough because the government is lazy and doesn’t care to send out all the checks together so everyone will get it. I have to wait until the end of june!! Thats pure #($*!! When we first got the letters it said MAY!! End of may would have have been ok but end of june I’m screwed! Thanks a lot bush and the rest of our government. For nothing. I hope your happy with your war that has screwed this country.
April 30th, 2008 at 11:30 am
we was suppose to be one of the first to get the rebate check and guess what…nothing…we filed early and we qualify..whats up..they said they went out early..
April 30th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Chat and Janice, I am not sure. If you had your recent refund placed directly in your checking/savings account, than you will receive a direct deposit rather than a check. Paper checks will be last.
They did start early, 4 days early meaning they began sending the money out on Monday (4/28). Assuming they sent your payment out on 4/28, it may take a few days for the deposit to show up in your bank account.
April 30th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Ok so the checks went out early so when will direct deposits with
21-75 get theres
April 30th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Janice, what they said was they were starting the payment distribution 4 days earlier than expected. They have not updated the schedule. One would expect that since they started 4 days earlier that all of the days would move forward 4 days, but that wasn’t explicitly stated by the IRS. The date for your SSN range is May 9th (as is mine). You may receive it sooner or a few days after.

i have a daughter that is 18. I claimed her on my taxes as a depentant but did not get the child tax credit because of her age. she does draw ssi from her disabled father. the ssi sent me a form for her so she could get this payment. does she get it?
also the form on the computer only asked for ss number and the amount of benefits she received for the year. Is that all she needs to do. Her father also filled one out on the computer.
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:52 am
I filed my taxes on time, did direct deposit, got my refund from my taxes, checked to see if I qualify – I do, don’t owe any student loans or child support, my ssn# is within the first group but as of today no stimulus payment. Any idea what happend???
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:31 am
I have been reading and I am not sure if it is correct. But from what I understand is if you used an online service that let you have the payment taken out of your refund and not your bank account you will recieve a check in the mail… Can anyone clear this issue up for me please
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Ron, I’m not really sure if I understand what you are saying. Basically when you did your 2007 taxes, received a refund, and used direct deposit than your stimulus payment will come via direct deposit. All other scenarios will come via paper check.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:14 pm
my ss last 2 digits 04…filed early, received refund through direct deposit…no stimulus payment today…bummer.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:25 pm
I called the irs today and h&r block where we had our taxes done. We should have recieved our rebate check today but since we had a (rac)done we are in the catagory to get a paper check even though we had our refund direct deposited! Hope this helps and now I know I can stop checking my bank account. The batch of checks coming out for my husbands social will be next week on the 9th. (Paper checks) So to sum it up if you got a loan or the money faster but did a direct deopit you will recieve a paper check instead. H&R terms that is a rac or a (ral- means refund inticapation loan) or for the (rac- refund anticipation check). Its a loan you get form them and then when they recieve your check from the government they pay the irs for you! Hope this helps
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Everyone wondering that did Direct Deposit but did not get refund today needs to check your tax paper work and see how you received your refund other than direct deposit. Did you just wait to get your refund from the us treasury (this takes longer) or did you do a rac or ral (a loan type of refund) to get the money sooner. If so you will not get your rebate by direct deposit you will get a paper check now! I get this straight from talking to the IRS today and h&r block.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:34 pm
wow…reading all of your comments makes me a little nervous…my last two digits are 69 and i did receive my refund through direct deposit…and seeing as how they are sending the direct deposits a week earlier figured i would get mine early next week…but some of you should of received your rebate checks this week and haven’t… it really makes me wonder if i will get mine on time.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:36 pm
I filed electronically, but through Turbo Tax. I also did not get a refund, but had to pay. So I will probably get a paper check? My husband’s last two digits of SS are 99. We’ll be the last to get them!
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:40 pm
HOW DID YOU RECIEVE IT THOUGH DID YOU GO THROUGH Turbo Tax OR H&R BLOCK AND DID YOU DO A RAC OR RAL DIRECT DEPOSIT? IF SO YOU WILL GET A PAPER CHECK THEY START SENDING THEM OUT ON THE 9TH STARTING WITH THE LAST 2 OF YOUR SOCIAL 00-07 I BELEIVE. YOU CAN CHECK THE IRS SITE THOUGH TO SEE THE COMPLETE SCHEDULE FOR PAPER CHECKS.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:43 pm
YES STAEPHANIE YOU SHOULD GET YOUR REBATE BY CHECK IN THE MAIL. BUT YOU CAN READ ALL ABOUT IT ON THE IRS SITE TO MAKE SURE I’M CORRECT. THEY ARE ONLY DOING DIRECT DEPOSITS FOR PEOPLE THAT RECIEVED A TAX REFUND IN THAT MANNER.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:44 pm
STEPHANIE (SORRY) I MISPELLED YOUR NAME!
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Are they sending out paper checks a week earlier also
May 2nd, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Alena, based on what I have read in the media, the whole process was started 4 days ahead. You would need to contact the IRS to confirm that though.
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Yes paper checks will start going out next friday.
May 3rd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
GARY- ur gripping about having to wait till june to get ur check, well guess what there’s other people who r in worse shape than u. my son and i have to wait till the end of july. i’m upset yes, but i’m also greatful that we’re even getting it. so quit gripping about ur self and think of the people who have it worse than u do. oh yeah and b greatful ur even getting it.
May 4th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
chris sizelove – No your daughter will not get a stimulus check because she was claimed as a dependent. This happened to me in 2001(?) with the first stimulus package. My parents claimed me, without my knowledge although legally they were within their rights, and as a result of being someone’s dependent, not stimulus check for me. However, if I’m reading everything about this package correctly, because you have a dependent (your daughter) you will recieve an extra 300 on top of whatever amount you would already recieve.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
so has anyone tried the Stimulus Payment Tracker at the IRS website?? well go figure my info is not available and i should be receiving my payment this week. My mother’s and my sister’s are also unavailable. here is the link….try it out. if it works for you let me know!!

What I am saying is that I filed thru H & R Block online. Paid for the filing fees out of my refund and go direct deposit. It was not a RAL or a RAC. but some people are saying that it was still a 3rd party deal and I will get a paper check. Can anyone confirm this. And if they are going to mail a check because of this they should have made this clear so we knew what to expect.
May 5th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
@Ron – Ok, understand now. I can’t see why that would make any difference, as long as you received your refund directly, but I am not 100% sure. This would be the first I’ve heard of such a thing. I would contact the IRS and ask them.
May 5th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
@Ron-If you had fees taken out of your refund, you will have to wait on a paper check. Sucks, I know, but its the gospel.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
ok, I got my taxes done the 1st week of febuary. I got a rapid refund back for my taxes and had the money put directly on one of those emerald cards from h&r block……so does that mean i hav to wait for a paper check…..
May 6th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Kara — I just tried the link. It said I would be getting $600.00 which would be deposited into my bank account May 9th. If I did not hear anything by May 14th I should contact the IRS. Hurray! At least I know now that it will be deposited and what the amount will be.
Thanks for the link!
May 7th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
This is why the IRS SUCKS!
Some consumers will have to wait longer than they thought to get their economic stimulus checks.

May 7th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
just to let yall know…i have recieved my rebate check…my last two are 69 and i got direct deposit…good luck everyone!
May 8th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
just so everyone out there knows i will be getting a papercheck for my stimulus payment even though i efiled through turbo tax on the web and went direct deposit. they are treating it like it was an anticipation loan because i had my fees deducted out of my tax refund when paying to efile my return through turbo tax. so i have to wait until June to get mine…
May 9th, 2008 at 2:06 am
I looked at my tax return that h&r block sent to the IRS and now i know for sure because i took the Ral and it went on my emerald card,i will be getting paper check not DD,because on my refund were it says direct deposit info i checked and it’s not my routing number nor my account number to my emerald card ,it must be the banks or h&r blocks. So that is why people that took the Ral will not be getting DD because the IRS dose not have are routing number or are account number.Sad thing is when i filed my tax and for the Ral i ended up having an offset of 100.00 and did not get my refund for 3 weeks but still had to pay fees to that bank for Ral.Now “NO” check for me until July 11 last # 93.
May 9th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
so i spoke to jackson hewitt and they confirmed that anyone who did their taxes with them before march is going to get a check. period. because the irs didnt send directions on how to file the tax returns to accomodate the stimulus check, in order to get it back by dd you had to file to get direct dep directly with the irs and not a third party…. also anyone who filed with a ral or rac will be getting a check in the mail… yes this sucks donkey balls but it could be worse… you could be getting nothing at all..or getting it last like moi…
May 9th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I did my taxes through turbo tax. Got my refund. Was exprecting to get $900 back ($600 for me and $300 for my 2 year old daugher) How ever I recieved my payment today via direct deposit, and only recieved $600. Anyone know why this happened?
May 9th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Not sure how this will be stimulating anything.
First they had to borrow the money from China to do this.
The rich people, well, the’ll just put it with the rest.
For the middle class and lower middle class:
-some it will be a 3 tanks of gas. That money goes to who? Opec? Exxon? the richest companies in the world.
-some will shop at walmart. that money goes to who? China
-some will maybe pay a couple of bills.
personally i’m behind in a couple of bills, that would help right about now.
May 10th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Hey how come I got my check today and claimed my son who is under a year old on my taxes as a dependent but i only recieved $600? How come I didn’t get the $300 for him?
May 10th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
same thing happened to me. My friend who has a 5 year old, recieved her $900. I have a 2 year old and only got $600!
May 11th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
i also claimed my 1 year old and only got $600. hopefully there is more to come.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
I am hearing that there are mistakes with some of the stimulus checks, specifically with those that have dependents. I am doing some research and will try to write something up this week after I know more.
From what I understand thus far, you won’t get the additional money until you file in 2009.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Just figured out why I’ve been calling my bank 3 times a day and only have less money in it instead of more. We filed through H&R Block. It would have been nice to know that we won’t be getting our money until May 30th. My last to digits are 24 and we were expecting money to be in the bank no later than May 9th. If only we had known that we wouldn’t get the money so late, we maybe wouldn’t have missed our house payment, and gotten all the fees that incurs. Thanks Irs and the government for NOT explaining the system of the stimulus package to anybody. It would have been helpful. Now by the time we get our money we’ll have to pay for 2 months and the money we are waiting for only covers one payment.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Well I just did the tracker. It says we should only be getting… $900. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful, but I don’t get why we don’t get the full amount… Two of us is 1,200. plus our 15 year old is 1,500, right? Our 17 year old won’t qualify because he was born before 12/31/2007.
ALSO ABOUT TAX CUT… We filed on-line, paid with our credit card and had direct deposit our last two digits are between 76-99 and should have our taxes on Friday May 16, 2007
May 14th, 2008 at 11:04 am
We filed dd and paid fees on our credit card, used turbotax. It stated we were in the 21-77 category, and that we would receive by May 9th. Still nothing. I am done waiting because now I don’t know when it will come. Every one better have a stash of cash at home. When it comes down to it. Our government are some crooked bastards. They don’t care about any of us. But on a good note, I will spend the money just like everyone else.::)))) I’m sure its a trap. Anything that is too good to be true usually is. We will pay it back some sort of way.
May 14th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
My rebate is supposed to be reduced because my net income tax liability is less than $1200. So instead of Me & my spouse receiving $1200 + $300 per child, we will be receiving $600 for me & spouse + $300 per child.
-maximum basic payment is single $600, married $1200 plus $300 per kid.(if net income tax liability is less than allowed for your status they reduce it by half,(that does not include amount per child you will get $300 per child as long as they qualify.)
-your rebate may be reduced if any of the following:
-You are single and your net income tax liability is less than $600. If you file Form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52.
-You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,200.
-You are single and your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than $75,000. On Form 1040, AGI is the amount on Line 37.
-You are married filing a joint return and your AGI is more than $150,000.
-You owe back taxes that reduced your payment.
-You have non-tax federal debts such as unpaid student loans or child-support obligations that reduced your payment.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Something said that if you paid to file your taxes, you’ll get a paper cheack. If so, well, I’ve yet to find a website that doesn’t charge you to file taxes.
My vacation is screwed. I’ll get a paper cheack in the middle of June. we leave on the 23rd. by the time I can make reservations all the campgrounds will be full
June 11th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
my son-in-law and daughter had filed their taxes in jan. claimed their 1 and half year old daughter. got stimulus check today and did not receive money for their child. what”s up with that?
June 11th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
anyone get a paper check yet?
June 12th, 2008 at 10:46 am
has anyone scheduled to have there check mailed by the 2oth already recieved it?
June 12th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Is the IRS still ahead of schedule? My last two digits are 80 but several people I know with last two digits in the 70’s already received their paper checks? How can that be? I’ve checked the IRS website and it says they have no information on the stutus of my check at this time. The original date is July 4th, is that still the same?
June 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I am waiting for mine its supposed to be mailed on june 20 but since they are a week ahead of schedule its supposed to be mailed out this friday i believe so I am not sure.
June 13th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I just found this site and I read a few of the comments and I agree with what Gary posted on April 30th! My thoughts exactly! Yes, thanks for the “help” from our “wonderful” government. That check will not come soon enough. I need all the help I can get. With the price of gas being at over $4 a gallon, and EVERYTHING else being outrageously priced, including anything you would need at the grocery store, I figured I can put gas in my car and feed my kids for two whole weeks with that whopping $600.
June 20th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
I am 17 years old and i was wondering if i will be elgible to receive an economic stimulus?
June 21st, 2008 at 7:31 pm

July 8th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
My hubby’s last two digits is 93 and my brother-in-law’s is 99 so we were both anticipating the July 11th payment. We both are expecting paper checks. He got his stimulus yesterday but we received nothing. Anyone have any idea why??
July 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
I,ve moved since my 2007 tax return, and filled out a change of address on 7-08 from the local post office, but still no check. My last two digits are 88.Been to all the irs sites, and tried to contact the local irs office. No luck there.Even tried “tracking” it on there website. What else can I do???
July 24th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
The letter we received on the 9th was mailed on the 7th. Our check was suppose to be mailed on the 11th…it’s July 24th and still no check.
Who knew the government was using the pony express to get me to stimulate the economy.
