Sunday Lyrics: I believe

In 1995, Blessid Union of Souls released what is in my opinion one of the best songs of the 90’s, I believe. Although not from a contemporary Christian group, the Blessid Union of Souls version is hands down my favorite version.

In 2006, Building 429 released their version of I believe. Their version is a little “harder” with more of a grungy undertone. I really like it, but it’s hard not to compare it to the original version. I love the sound of lead singer, Jason Roy’s, vocals. He has a very unique sound.

Below are the lyrics to the song I believe. Building 429 added the last stanza to the original lyrics. No matter which version you prefer, the lyrics are powerful and send a message that still has meaning 13 years later.

Walk blindly to the light and reach out for His hand
Don’t ask any questions and don’t try to understand
Open up your mind and then open up your heart
You will see that you and me aren’t very far apart

‘Cause I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way
I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way

Violence has spread worldwide and there’s families on the streets
We sell drugs to children now, well why can’t we just see
That all we do is eliminate our future with the things we do today
Money is our incentive now so that makes it ok

But I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way
I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way

Walk blindly to the light and reach out for His hand
Don’t ask any questions and don’t try to understand

I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way
I believe that love is the answer
I believe love will find a way

Jesus is the Answer for the World Today
Above Him theres no other
Jesus is the Way
Jesus is the Answer for the World Today
Above Him theres no other
Jesus is the Way

Actually, there was one more verse in the Blessid Union of Souls version.

It went like this (from memory, so there may be a word or two off):

    I’ve been seeing Lisa now,
for a little over a year.

She says she’s never been so happy
    but Lisa lives in fear.

That one day Daddy’s gonna find out she’s in love
with a Nig*er from the streets,

oh how he would lose it then
but she’s still here with me

Cause she believe that love will see it through
    some day he’ll understand

he’ll see me as a person
and not just a black man…

    Cause I believe
    love is the answer
    I believe love will find a way….

Great song. One of my favorites!

I thought I was the only one who liked BUoS in the 90s. None of my friends even knew about them. :-)
