Sunday Lyrics – Sometimes He Calms The Storm

Ever have a storm blow into your life and no matter how much you pray it just doesn’t seem to blow over as quickly as you would like? Have you ever wondered if God was really listening and hearing your prayers? I know I have, far too many times.
Last year was a very difficult year for us, and one evening, probably the worse in my life, I was praying for God’s intervention in my life. As I finished praying, a song come on our local Christian radio. It was one I had heard before, but this time I truely believe God spoke to me through the ministry of Scott Krippanye and his song Sometimes He Calms The Storm.
The song uses the story found in Matthew 8:23-7 where Jesus and his diciples are crossing a lake in a boat. Jesus was asleep when a furious storm arose. The diciples thought they were going to die and awoke Jesus saying “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”. Jesus rebuked the wind and waves, causing the storm to leave. Looking at his diciples he said “You of little faith…”. One of the last things you want to hear from the son of God!
Jesus however doesn’t always calm the storm, but uses the storm to teach us and make our faith stronger. The song says it best “Sometimes He calms the storm and sometimes he calms the child“. The next time you are facing a storm in your life, and your prayers don’t seem to be heard, remember God always hears our prayers and does that which is best for us and not always what we ask. Have faith that He will take care of you, provide for you, and answer your prayer…just maybe not in the way you expected.
Here are the lyrics to Scott Krippane’s song Sometimes He Calms The Storm from his very first CD Wild Imagination. I wasn’t able to find a video or audio link, but the song is beautiful.
All who sail the sea of faith
Find out before too long
How quickly blue skies can grow dark
And gentle winds grow strong
Suddenly fear is like white water
Pounding on the soul
Still we sail on knowing
That our Lord is in control
Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered peace be still
He can settle any sea
But it doesn’t mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child
He has a reason for each trial
That we pass through in life
And though we’re shaken
We cannot be pulled apart from Christ
No matter how the driving rain beats down
On those who hold to faith
A heart of trust will always
Be a quiet peaceful place

As usual, I love that song!
I’m glad you’re making it through the storm, and that you made it through that difficult night and are able to see the hand of God in your life. It’s comforting, even when you don’t know the outcome.
Keep up with the Sunday lyrics. I always love seeing what you’ll post on Sundays. :)

This post resonates *so* strongly with me. 2001 was, without doubt, the worst year of my life. I won’t detail what went wrong, but the phrase “pretty much everything” should cover it.
I remember being on my knees, praying whilst in floods of tears for the Lord to solve my problems, and suddenly it occurred to me that I was praying for the wrong thing. I didn’t need the situation solved – He’d sent the situation for a reason. What I needed was the calm to accept the lesson and the strength to fix things myself. So that’s what I prayed for. And that’s *exactly* what I got. And that’s *exactly* what I needed.
2001 was the fire that forged the person I am today. With His help and a following wind, I changed my entire life for the better. Once you can see the path He’s setting out, it all gets easier.
I’ll have to look out the song – sounds like it’d be right up my street!

Keep coming back to this song time and time again. Found out yesterday that my mom’s cancer is back for the third time. I’m gonna make a little book for her with these lyrics to have with her when she has her chemo.
