New Theme is Up!!
By glblguy
The new theme is now live. I still have a couple of minor issues and some tweaks I’d like to make, but overall the implementation went very smooth.
Please let me know what you think!!

At first blush, I like it! :)
The only thing I can think of offhand is that I’d like some kind of picture or something in the header.
I’ll try to think of any other feedback as I keep reading your posts this week. :)

@Mrs. Micah – Great suggestion and already on my list of things to do. Thanks for the feedback!

It looks good. I like it. Only one minor thing, the box under “Advertisements” is a little big and goes outside the column.

Thanks SGM, working on that now… :-)

Fixed SGM, thanks!

Hi glblguy,
I wish I could say I love it but I can’t. The black page background is really hard on my aging eyes and just in this short amount of time is starting to give me a headache. Sorry.

I really like it! I agree with Mrs. Micah that you need some kind of image in your header, but you’re already on that. Love the new feed icons!

@Elizabeth – Assuming you mean the border around the page or is the background of the article page rendering black in your browser?
@Lynnae – Thanks. I’m good at all the technical stuff, not so good at the image/logos…

I like it! It really bring the focus into the main body section where the posts are. Well done!

Thanks debtdieter, that was one of primary design goals.

Clicking on the picture at the top of a post from the home page does not bring up the full post. Instead the viewer has to search around for the ‘more details’ link. I don’t like that (can’t remember if it worked that way before but I don’t think it did)
Also, the site background is black (empty space on the left and right of the page when my screen resolution allows) in addition to the background in the header being black. Having them both black means the header fades away and almost isn’t noticed. Maybe that is your goal but I personally don’t like that since the header has live links and is a branding tool. If you changed the header background (or site background) slightly then the header could still be secondary to the main content but not ingored entirely.
I do appreciate the new column for Google Ads… couldn’t resist that one since you had hinted at a new column :) . Honestly, I actually like the ads in that spot instead of being tied to the summary of each post. Good choice.
Overall, I really like it!

Hmmm, one more thing… In my comment above I think I had blank lines between each suggestion. It has been posted with them removed so the ideas run together. You might want to double check that to see if it was my mistake or a “feature”.
Test – There should be a blank line above this.
Test 2 – There should be a blank line above this too.

RobY – Thanks for the feedback. Hmmm, you’re right on the picture…that isn’t what it’s supposed to do. I’ll look into that.
I think you’re right, it didn’t work that way.
You can just click on the post title instead of looking for the “Read the rest…” link.
You’re the second person that’s made a comment about the background being black. It was intentional to draw focus to the content, but I don’t want that to be at the expense of the brand. Good point.
The intent of the second column was to try to separate the ads from the site features more distinctly. Before I had them intermixed more.
Thanks again for the comments and feedback.

@RobY – You’re right again…stripping out blanks. I’ll check into that too. Thanks, good catch.
