My One Money Advice (MOMA Meme)

By glblguy

MOMA MEME GraphicI am not sure why, but every time I read MOMA Meme, my mind automatically does so with an Italian accent…”Moma Meme, it’s in there!

Moving right along…It would seem I have been tagged with the MOMA Meme from Pinyo at Moolanomy. Actually, all of us in the M-Network were tagged last week. I am not a big Meme person, and wasn’t going to participate but Pinyo is a pretty persuasive guy and he said please so what was I supposed to do?

If you don’t know what a meme is, than read this article on Wikipedia. Don’t feel bad, I didn’t at first either, I mean…Meme…what a weird word…it looks like a typo.

The MOMA Meme question?: If you can give one advice, tip, or story related to money, what would you share?

My Answer: Money is not the problem, you are

The first step in my getting control of your finances is Recognition. Recognition deals with recognizing the fact that you are the primary source of your money problems. Money is an object, money in and of itself can do nothing. The choices, good or bad, that you decide make regarding your money is what will make you wealthy or not.

I believe that money management is mostly about people’s behavior and the choices they make. We choose to spend more than we earn. We choose to by that “thingy” that we don’t need but want right now rather than saving and buying it later. We choose to buy that shiny new trendy car, rather than paying cash for an older car. It’s all about choice. We have to face the person in the mirror and decide to stop making poor choices and take control of our money instead of our money controlling us.

Proverbs 21:20 – Fools spend whatever they get.

Proverbs 28:19 – Hard workers have plenty of food.

As part of the “Meme thing” I need to tag some other bloggers…so here’s the 5 I am tagging:

All kidding on the Meme aside, thanks to Pinyo for starting this. Seeing the one piece of advice from so many different bloggers has been really interesting, and I am sure very beneficial to all of our readers.

I saw this quote yesterday at the gym:

“If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.”

That rings true with me on exercise as well as finances.

My tip would be to focus on forever changing those bad money habits and creating new good money habits.

Glblguy, thank you! I know “please” would work on a gentleman like you. I love your advice — self-awareness is very key in any situation.

And, I am also very excited to see all the good advices coming from all over the blogosphere. The list is up to 35 now!

I always associate memes with Richard Dawkins (he uses them to explain – at least to me – how evolution works). And I like your advice.

Yep, you have to tackle the underlying cognitive behavioural elements, because money is just an object. It can’t think for itself and it’s not good or evil on it’s own, it only becomes so when as humans we use it in a particular way. I especially like your comments about “Fools spend whatever they get.”
